Janet Hawley Obituary

Proud to have been born “up north” in Barrow-in-Furness, England, on March 1, 1948. Janet emigrated with her parents Alex and Noreen (nee Williams) McClune to N.D.G., Montreal as a schoolgirl. With her first husband, Ernie Caron, she moved first to Beaconsfield, then to Oakville. Widowed, she rescued Peter in a long line that had previously been limited to dogs and only lately Freya the cat. After years of unwedded bliss they did marry, characteristically she chose a Friday the 13th. They lived in Burlington, and then Belleville for the last seven years.
An only child, and childless herself, Jan was adopted by Peter’s family and leaves behind Laura and Mike and their sons Gavin and Lucas, Kristin and Jay, and Keith, plus Peter’s siblings, Annette and Harry; and Kevin and Jackie; and their families. She loved you all. She also leaves her cousins and their families in Oakville and England, “sister” Debby and the rest of Ernie’s family in the Montreal area.
Though they enjoyed the music, despite lessons, Jan and Peter never really mastered salsa or really any other form of dancing but that didn’t stop them from trying. Her other regular pleasures were live theatre, live music especially jazz and current affairs. She was always a traveler, from her younger ventures with Bev in Spain and cruises with Noreen, she enjoyed more recent vacations in the Mediterranean and across the Caribbean. Zip lining in Antigua was a recent thrill.
Months ago, she said she wouldn’t see the next spring, right as always, Jan passed on March 2, only hours after her 76th birthday.
