Vesna Walmsley 09/12/1938- 10/27/2024
Vesna Walmsley was born Vesna Gorup-Rozic on September 12,1938 and later took on her father’s last name, becoming Vesna Bojanic in her teens. She was born in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia and lived with her mother, Veronika and Teta Anka in her early years. Her sister, Mirjana, sadly died very young and the hardships of Vesna’s early life shaped her into a very hard-working and strong individual. She flourished at school and attended Zagreb University to study Languages, becoming fluent in several. She was discovered at 22 in a nightclub by a young director who cast her in his first film and propelled her into local stardom. She began working as a model and travelled Europe on a tour with Vidal Sassoon, before settling in London in the 1960s. There she met her husband, Michael Walmsley, a young medical doctor and musician. They married and brought Vesna’s mother, known as Baba, over to live with them in Manchester, where their first two children, Stefan and Sarah-Jane, were born. The family then travelled and worked in Jamaica before finally settling in Ontario, Canada. When her husband got a job as a General Surgeon at The Mississauga Hospital, Vesna began exploring the local area and fell in love with Mineola, moving the family there in 1972. Vesna always had a passion for houses and property, so it was a natural progression for her to enter into the field of real estate. They had two more children, Michelle and Sophie, and Vesna went on to enjoy a very successful career as an agent, selling houses and making many friends in the local area. She was always extremely generous and loyal, enjoying socialising the neighbourhood as well as keeping in touch with old friends from Croatia and her dear roommate Pam from her London days. She was a loving wife of 58 years to her husband Michael, an exceptionally proud mother of her four children and was always very close in their lives, visiting, and speaking daily despite the distances between them. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother- calling herself Noni- and adored all of her six grandchildren: Stefan’s daughters Sage and Blaire; Sarah-Jane’s children George, Josie and Matthew; and Sophie’s son Remy. Whilst her career as a businesswoman was a long and successful one, she also continued to do some modelling and acting throughout her life, in TV commercials, at gala events and even winning a Sophie-Loren-Lookalike contest. She overcame cancer but suffered 4 debilitating strokes in the last few years of her life, the last one in August of this year. She passed away peacefully in Mississauga Hospital on Sunday October 27, 2024 surrounded by family both in person and online.
She was the most beautiful woman- both inside and out, and will always be remembered for her kindness, her warmth and the love she gave to her friends and family. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
