With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Baba, Marija Starcevic. Beloved wife of Ivan (deceased) and loving Mother to Nick (Mary Lynn), dotting Baba to her Grandson, Matthew.
She left us on Wednesday, May 15th and has left a huge void that cannot be filled.
Born on February 25, 1938 in Aleksensia Croatia to a loving, hard working family who lived off their land and enjoyed music, good food and spending time with family and friends after a hard day of work.
After meeting and marrying her husband, Ivan in 1965, she then became the proudest Mama to their first and only Son, Nikola. Four years later in 1970 they immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. They arrived with one suitcase and a small amount of cash in their pockets.
Marija worked as a general labourer for Parkers Cleaners to help support their family. She worked hard at everything she did. Her home on Kingsholm Drive where she lived for 50 years was her pride and joy. She kept a beautiful home, was a very proud gardener and loved to grow fruits and vegetables and share them with everyone. She was generous and always happy. You could always count on a big smile to be on her face. She loved to cook and bake and always had something warm and comforting to share with any visitors who stopped by. You could usually expect to hear some Croatian folk songs playing from her cassette tapes in the living room. She loved to have company and would welcome everyone with open arms.
Her faith was strong and unwavering. She started each day and every meal with prayer. It was a woven part of her entire life and you would usually spot a rosary either in her hands or in her pockets. She loved to attend church services each week and watched it daily on television.
All friends and family may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel Chapter”, 2180 Hurontario Street (Hwy 10, N. of the QEW) on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 7-9 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish, 921 Flagship Drive, Mississauga on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11 AM.
The family invites you to join them in the St. Patrick’s Church hall following the funeral mass for a small reception. Following the reception, Interment will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery on Tomken Road and Derry Road, Mississauga.
If desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
