At the age of 93 on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Toronto Grace Hospital, Eugene Sulej peacefully passed away. He was the beloved husband of Cecylia for 63 years and devoted father of Evelyn Siuda (Tadek), Mark (Diana), Julian (Monica), and Paulina Kalinowski (John). Loving grandfather of Natasia, Elise, Veronica, Elora, Patrick, and Daniel. Survived by his caring brother Kazik Sulej.
Born December 1, 1930 in Poland, he lived through hardships due to the war that resulted in his ultimate immigration to Canada, where he settled down with his mother and brother. He met his beloved wife in Toronto and they married in 1960. He worked to support his family at Canada Packers until his retirement, which he never ceased to mention even well into his retirement years. Eugene will be remembered by his closest friends and family for always having something funny to say, a silly face to make, or a song to sing.
A devout Catholic, attending Mass often and praying the rosary faithfully, Eugene was strengthened in hope and faith for his final journey. Eugene is reunited with his parents and siblings, as well as with all his Heavenly friends he invoked during his life, St. Faustina and St. John Paul II.
His family would like to thank the kind nursing staff on the Palliative Care Unit at Toronto Grace Health Centre for their exceptional care and compassion while caring for Eugene. When asked if he is being treated well there, he would always nod yes with a smile, and for that we are grateful.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., (Hwy. 10, N of the QEW) on Sunday, August 11 from 6-9 p.m. Rosary will be prayed for the repose of Eugene’s soul at 8pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 12 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 4260 Cawthra Rd., Mississauga, at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
