It is with profound sadness that we announce that Eduardo Tapia passed away peacefully at home with his wife Sandra (Pussycat) and their family by his side. Eduardo was called by many people who met him “The Most Interesting Man,” which he truly was! He was a very kind, gentle, generous, romantic and fun-loving person. He was also a unique artist who leaves behind many paintings, wood carvings, stories, videos and beautiful jewellery.
Whatever he accomplished in his life, he did it with passion – from climbing mountains to becoming a Racquetball Champion, Windsurfer, Masseur and Wood-carver or building things at the family cottage. He loved to dance and enjoyed parties and celebrations whenever he could. Some joked he was “Just a Gigolo” as he charmed and loved all women, but Sandra was really the Love of his Life! He was a philosopher with his many questions and views of life and loved discussions and debates with many of his friends. Traveling was another of his passions, and he did so whenever he could, whether it was around the world adventures, vacations, cruises or winter escapes to beautiful Bequia.
Eduardo was born in Valparaiso, Chile, and is predeceased by his parents Enrique Tapia and Isobel Rodriguez and his two sisters Eliana and Mireya. He will be missed by his nephew Erik Kirmayr and nieces Ingebor Kirmayr and Heidy Concha and her husband Genaro.
In his youth he climbed many high peaks in the Andes mountains of Chile. While working as a sailor for a year on a Scandinavian oil tanker he was a “Wheelman” steering the huge ship between the fiords to Patagonia in the south. He apprenticed and became a master jeweller. In 1969, he decided to emigrate to Canada, and started working in his profession, opening his own business a few years later creating beautiful diamond jewellery. He was very proud to be a Canadian Citizen.
Since he was 45 years old, he said to everyone that he would “die young” Instead, he made it to 85!
Eduardo will be fondly remembered and lovingly missed by Sandra and family: Jason Dickey and partner Samantha House, Alyssa Dickey, her husband Garrett Hachkowski and grandson Elliot, Jocelyn (Dickey) Chamberland and grandsons Pierce and Reid, and Tammy Hand. Also his sister-in -law Susan Scott-Mallett, her husband David, Sarah and Joey and their families, as well as sister-in-law Pamela McWhirter, Kaitlin, Lucas and Jesse and their families. As well as his former wife Patricia Tapia and her family: Steve Edgar and wife Joanne, Chris and Elizabeth. Also by his many close friends and acquaintances.
Eduardo really lived his life to the fullest and “Did it His Way”. He is at peace now.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Eduardo’s Life will be held at a later date.
