n Loving Memory of Patricia Jane Woodcroft (nee Heaven)
July 14, 1936 – April 3, 2024
In gratitude, we announce with peaceful and overflowing hearts, the death and new journey of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Pat.
Sheila (Keith deceased), Elizabeth (Ian), David (Shelley) and Geoff (Jennifer), along with grandchildren Geoff, Jenn, Greg and Carrie, Connor, Jake, Val, Luke, Jakki, Meli, and great grandchildren AJ, Dougie, Eli and Tiffany are most grateful for the beautiful and talented life Pat has lived. She is predeceased by her husband Jack, parents Marge and Geoff, and brothers Richard and Donald.
Early in life, Pat was a rising star figure skating in her birthplace of Hamilton, an avid tennis player, swimmer, canoer and camper (with her extended Heaven family clan). She is a skilled golfer and curler (remember the eight ender? How could we forget?) Always with a keen eye and hand for artistic endeavour in mixed media, painting rug-making, textile art, knitting and through her last 3 decades weaving in her arts bunkie on Horseshoe Lake. Hospitality is the art for which she is most renowned. In particular, her astounding cooking skills and excitement to welcome guests are only be matched by her guest’s excitement to arrive in Pat’s home, or lake-shore-kitchen. She attached the same hospitality through voluminous and selfless volunteerism, through Trinity Church Simcoe, St Paul’s Minden, extended family and neighbourhood functions and tirelessly with the Minden Hospital Auxiliary Association. Pat is well known and loved in so many community circles. Pat loves travel, exploring, and finding something new. She so enjoys hearing and telling a great story, finding silver-linings, and if none are easily found, simply digging deeper to find them.
Pat’s family and friends are invited to come and celebrate her most wonderful life on Saturday, July 13, 2024. A drop in gathering will take place at 2567 Horseshoe Lake Road between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. Please come and share some of your memories.
Memorial Donations to the Minden Health Care Auxiliary or to the St. Paul’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 427, Minden K0M 2K0
Time at Horseshoe Lake, with her family and dear extended family bring great joy to her, not to mention the great wisdom gained by viewing the natural world in its ever changing iterations. We leave readers with the following memory: corned-beef hash cooked over an open fire at the lake-front, slices of fresh bread toasted with campfire forks, topped with homemade raspberry jam. Then when all was tidied-up, we lit the bon-fire in the darkening of evening, and Mom would begin to sing:
Pack up all my cares and woes
Here I go singing low
Bye bye blackbird
Where somebody waits for me
Sugar’s sweet, so is she
Bye bye blackbird
No one here can love or understand me
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me.
So, make my bed, and light the light
I’ll arrive late tonight
Black bird bye-bye
