JOHNSTON, HAZEL (Eastman)
Peacefully passed at Queensway Carleton Hospital on Friday, May 17 in her 99th year. Loving wife of the late Stanley Johnston. Cherished mother of Heather (Jean-Paul Roberge) and David (Mary Martin). Proud Granny of Michelle (Kevin Butcher), Michael Bullock (Victoria Randel) and the late Nicole Roberge. Much loved great-grandmother of Malcolm, Evelyn and Maia. Sister of Violet (late Leslie McEwan) and the late Madeline (late Percy Findlay) and Stuart (Isobel). Fondly remembered by the Johnston and Roberge families and her many nieces and nephews. Hazel was an active member of the South Gloucester United Church community for decades working on bake sales, fund raisers and serving for a time as church treasurer. After her children left the home, Hazel worked as a seamstress making skating costumes for competitive athletes. In response to Stanley’s deteriorating health, Hazel stopped working outside of the home and devoted her life to taking extraordinary care of him. Hazel lived her life fully and was prepared to make difficult decisions. In her 90th year she moved into Manotick Place Retirement Home and in her 93rd year she stopped driving. Thank you to Manotick Place and Aunt Izzy for their care and to Aunt Vi for her constant support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Gloucester United Church or Canadian Cancer Society. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Daley Family Funeral Home, 6971 Bank Street, from 7-9 p.m. Friday May 31. Funeral Saturday June 1 in the chapel at 11 am.
