Humphrey, Marjorie Florence ‘Marj’
Marjorie passed away peacefully in Mount Forest on Friday, December 20, 2024 in her 99th year.
Born in Toronto on February 17, 1926 to William and Adelaide Bowes. She was married to the love of her life John ‘Jack’ Humphrey for more than 40 years before his death in 1989. Marj and Jack’s life together began as a workplace romance and they married in September 1948. Marj and Jack raised their three daughters in Montreal, then settled back in Ontario.
Marj enjoyed and excelled in sports as a girl and an adult. She and Jack enjoyed bowling, curling and golf together for many years and Marj continued playing golf into her eighties, winning club championships. Funnily, the reason she took up golf was because Jack was an avid golfer and she knew if she wanted to ever see him, she’d have to become a golfer.
Marj loved to sew and knit and her great grandchildren could look forward to their hand knit Christmas presents every year from Nana. She always enjoyed a good game of bridge and was the life of any party.
Marj and Jack’s children were so fortunate to have parents who liked to travel on summer vacations. Wasaga Beach, Thorel House on Lake Rousseau and Cape Cod were just a few of the destinations they enjoyed. As empty nesters, they made many golf trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach.
Marjorie will be greatly missed by her children, Ann (Jim), Cathy (David) and Janet (Ken); grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian), Kelly (Mitch), Dan (Susie), Bradley (Elisabeth), Pam (Chris), Kate (Tom), Bryan (Jordon), Michael (Amy) and Christine (Drew); great-grandchildren Shylah, Bryce, Benjamin, Brody, AJ, Oliver, Lillian, Marley, Evelyn, Breeyn, Emma, Cloverlyn, Ben, Violet, Findlay, Lucy, Finnian and Lincoln.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband John Humphrey, parents William and Adelaide Bowes, brother William and sister Evelyn. She is survived by her brother David.
