It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron Ratcliffe, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who left us peacefully on December 22, 2024 after a lengthy and valiant battle with cancer.
Ron’s warmth, and unyielding spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born on May 15, 1946 in East York to Kenneth and Doris Ratcliffe (nee McBride), Ron had a natural talent for creativity and craftsmanship. He was proudly celebrated as a handyman, capable of building, installing or repairing virtually anything. His passion for cars was only rivaled by his love for cold beer, food and laughter shared with family. Celebrating the joy and camaraderie of life’s simplest pleasures, he could often be found working alongside his loved ones as they created lasting memories.
Ron dedicated much of his professional life to the automobile service sector, ultimately managing a dealership service department. His commitment to his work not only carved out a successful career but also allowed him to mentor younger generations entering the field.
A sports enthusiast, Ron enjoyed reliving his days as an OHL caliber referee, a pursuit that cemented his love for junior hockey. A true dog lover, Ron loved four-legged friends as much as they loved him.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of kindness and decency that will forever be etched in our hearts. He is survived by his sisters Carolyn Stella (Robert) and Diane Copeland (George), by his sons Derek, and Lee (Melanie), his grandchildren (Tyler, Brayden, Jessica) his nieces and nephews (Cheryl, Grant, Andrea, Blair, Heather) and great- nieces and nephews (Dylan, Amber, Cameron, Christian, Alex, Ava, Chase, Wyatt).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your liking.
We invite family and friends to join in a Celebration of Life for Ron on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 12pm at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home (8911 Woodbine Ave., Markham)
