Obituary of Eira Margaret Keay
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Eira Margaret Keay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Eira was born in Aberafon Wales, on December 24, 1947, and passed away on November 11, 2024, at the age of 76.
Eira’s life was a testament to dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. She married John Keay on July 4, 1969, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose. In the 1970s, Eira and John made the bold decision to immigrate to Canada, where they settled in Markham and raised their children. For over four decades, Eira worked tirelessly as an Operations Manager in Property Management, where her skill, efficiency, and professionalism made her a respected figure in the industry. Her success was not only defined by her career but also by her incredible ability to balance work and family, creating a nurturing home for her children while leaving a lasting impact on the community. Eira’s contributions to Markham extended far beyond her professional life. She was a passionate advocate for youth sports and played a pivotal role in the growth of adult soccer programs at both Markham Soccer Club and Unionville Soccer Club. Through her efforts, countless individuals were introduced to the joys of the game, and she was recognized as a “Builder of the Game” by the Region’s Soccer Association for her dedication and leadership.
In addition to her work in soccer, Eira found joy in giving back in other meaningful ways. She knit countless caps and blankets for patients at Markham Stouffville Hospital, offering comfort and warmth to those in need. Her community involvement extended to political endeavors as well, where she worked to help shape the future of Markham, always with the goal of making it a better place for everyone. Even after her retirement, Eira remained active in the community, continuing to contribute, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched. Eira’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and selflessness. She was a woman of remarkable character, whose love for her family, her community, and her work never wavered. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched. Eira is survived by her devoted husband, John; her son Christopher and daughter in law Jocelyn; her grandchildren Sawel, Colby and Julissa; and a wide circle of friends and family whose lives were enriched by her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer Society of Canada in Eira’s memory, supporting causes that were dear to her heart.
Rest in peace, Eira. You will never be forgotten.
