Brian James Wong, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday October 4, 2024, with his loving family by his side, after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, February 23, 1954 to parents Margery and Carlton Wong and was the big brother of Michael Wong (Sharon) and Andrea Mungal (Jeff). The family moved from Jamaica in 1966 to Scarborough, Ontario where Brian played soccer, attended school, and later, met the love of his life, Betty.
In 1979, Brian and Betty married and began their life together. Brian’s “best swimmers” were later named Brandon (Sabrina), Kristen (Stephen), Graham (Christina), Kaitlin (Ryan), and Matthew (Dani).
Brian had many loves but if you asked him his top 3, he would have said, family, travel, and good food. His favourite places to travel were Japan, Portugal, Hawaii, and of course, Jamaica. Towards the last months of his life, since he couldn’t travel anymore, Brian made an alphabetized wishlist of all the cuisines he would love to try. He wanted to travel the world through food, and with the help of family and friends, he sure did!
Without a doubt, Brian’s greatest joy was his family. Among these were his grandchildren, Anah, Noah, Samara, Briar, Sawyer, and his step-grandchildren, Alessia and Matteo.
A memorial for Brian will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home in Markham, on Thursday October 17, 2024.
