He is predeceased by his parents Reginald and Olive Duffield, his brother John Duffield, sister-in-law Margaret and son-in-law Doug Armstrong.
Alan was born in 1928 in Norfolk England. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1966, he completed 2 years service with the British Royal Navy based in Malta followed by a 13 year teaching post in West Germany. Alan eventually settled with his wife and 4 children in Prescott, Ontario, where he accepted a position as Head of the Math department at South Grenville District High School. As a passionate teacher, Alan also taught Computer Science at Queens University, Kingston and Mathematics at St. Lawrence College, Brockville.
Alans love for teaching was matched by his love of sports. One of his cherished accomplishments was being a co-founder of the Prescott Minor Soccer League. Over the years, Alan has been active with the Prescott Golf Club, Prescott Curling Club and the Brockville Country Club.
Alan will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend, a calm, quiet intellectual, a dedicated teacher and an avid golfer.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Royal Brock retirement home for their care during his time with them as well as the care team at Bayshore.
A service for family and friends will be held at St James Anglican Church, 20 Church St, Maitland Ontario on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11 am, followed by a reception at St. James Hall across the road from the church.
