Obituary
Peacefully in palliative care at Peoplecare Oakcrossing on October 18, 2024, Stanley Meredith Toal passed away in his 98th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy Jean Toal (nee Ryckman) until her passing in 2021, Stan is survived by his son Brian, daughter Nancy (Bob) and granddaughters Danielle (Jared) and Jocelyn (Bruno). Predeceased by his parents Alice Toal (later Taylor) and George Toal. Fondly remembered by special nieces and nephews, extended family and church friends. Special thanks to Veterans Counselor Bruce Bradford, Dr. Susan McNair and the team at Peoplecare for their kindness.
Stan loved cars and golfing with Bob, but he loved singing the most; in Robinson United Church choir and community choirs as well as senior singing competitions and as a volunteer at seniors’ homes. After Robinson Church closed, he enjoyed the music and fellowship at Rowntree United Church. He bonded with his granddaughter Jocelyn over music and even sang a duet at a Lifewater fundraiser less than a decade ago. In recent years, Peoplecare asked him to lead every happy birthday tribute, impromptu sing-along s as well as the odd solo after a meal.
Family was his greatest joy. In past years, weekly Sunday dinners were treasured, with lively conversation and a proper Sunday dinner menu. When Danielle began living independently, he was thrilled to have Sunday dinner in her apartment. The highlight of recent years was Brian’s annual visits back from Vietnam, and Nancy’s frequent visits bearing a Tim Horton’s coffee. Stan was keen on the daily news, all kinds of history and had been a voracious reader. His best last days were when he knew the answer on Jeopardy and the contestant did not! His sharp mind and amazing memory provided lively conversations until almost the very end. His keen interest in those he loved will be missed every day and cherished forever.
Visitation with Reception at Harris Funeral Home on Friday November 1st at 12:30 pm, followed by funeral service at 1:30. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens to follow. Memorial contributions to Rowntree Memorial United Church would be appreciated, or the charity of your choice.
