Maria Lipari
Today we have lost a true Angel, and it is with great sadness that the time has come to say Goodbye; Heaven has received another Angel. Maria Lipari (Salvadore), at the age of 93, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Maria was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Carmelo Lipari (2013).
Maria was born in Santa Lucia del Mela in 1931, and was one of the 10 children of the late Diego Salvadore and Peppina Pagano. Maria and Carmelo immigrated to Canada in July 1957, with their 4 year old daughter, Pasqua Fortunata, in hopes to make a better life for their family. She desperately missed her family that was left behind in Sicily. Coming to Canada was a very hard and difficult decision and the first 5 years were extremely difficult, but in time she embraced the new life, made many friends, and made the best of it.
She was the cherished mother of daughter, Tina Carapella (Mario) and son, Santo Lipari. She will be dearly missed by her 3 grandchildren, Bianca Locke (Ed), Erika Oakes (Kevin), and Michael Lipari (Shawna). She will also be dearly missed by her 6 great-grandchildren, Isabella and Michael Locke, Noah and Bennett Oakes and Georgia and Knox Lipari. Maria lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they were her whole life.
She will be greatly missed by: her special friend and companion Sandro Battel, her sisters, Santa Maio (Franco) and Nina Maio, and brother Michelle Salvadore, numerous nieces and nephews and all her special friends she has made over the years.
She worked at Saint Mary’s as a dietary aid, for 33 yrs; and occasionally, she made pizza and lasagna for residents and staff on her days off. She also loved her job, working for the Sisters of St.Joseph’s.
She had much joy in cooking and feeding her family and friends. Maria and her husband Carmelo were very involved in the Sicilian Club; they would both cook many meals and supported the club any way they could. She also took pride in her garden, offering fresh vegetables to who ever would take them. Maria was a very strong and independent woman who faced many hardships in her life but never let them break her spirit. Maria didn’t have a selfish bone in her, she was a very giving and loving person. She lived for her family, and her legacy of love and generosity will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
We would like to send a special thank you to the nursung staff and volunteers at St Joseph’s Hospice for their incredible care and compassion. They are all, truly, angels on earth.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Monday, December 30 from 3 pm – 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 345 Lyle Street, on Tuesday morning, December 31 at 10 am. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
