John Edward Kaempf passed away peacefully at Southbridge Long Term Care in London Ontario, on Friday November 29, 2024 at the age of 91.
Beloved husband of Shirley Doris Kaempf for 59 years. Loving father of Christine Laura Ritchie (Bryan), John Stephen Kaempf (Kateryna Klymova) and Mark Brian Kaempf. Brother of William Kaempf (deceased), Patricia Gilley (Bruce) and Jim (Doris). Grandfather of Ivan Klymov.
John and Shirley moved to London Ontario in 1970, after spending some time in Ottawa; where John was a high school teacher and Shirley worked for the federal government. John’s career took a different path in London, where he worked for the Ministry of Revenue Municipal Assessment office. He enjoyed this career as a municipal assessor and felt that it was his true calling.
John was an avid reader of the classics and historical non-fiction and would continue to read until his eyes wouldn’t allow him to do so. He loved playing hockey in his younger years, and was a loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs all of his life. John also had a passion for music, especially big band and swing. This style of music inspired him to learn the saxophone in his retirement years and play in the New Horizons Band in London! It was a real treat to enjoy his concerts.
John and Shirley attended London Gospel Temple church in London for many years and later, Westview Baptist Church. They enjoyed travelling together and spending time with their children.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday December 6 2024 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. There will be a small reception and an interment afterwards at Woodland Cemetery at 493 Springbank Drive, London.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of John are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
