Julia (Jane) Mastrandrea (nee Walsh)
With deep sadness we share the passing of the beautiful human Jane Mastrandrea, surrounded by her loving family on April 17, 2024, in the loving embrace of the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood Hospital. Lovingly adored wife of Joe Mastrandrea, Jane was predeceased by Parents Leo and Jean Walsh, Cherished Mother of Laura (Stephanie) Mastrandrea, John Mastrandrea (predeceased 2018) Mark (Tristian) Mastrandrea and Incredible Nonna of Winnie & Jaxson
Beloved sister of Paul (predeceased) (Myrna) Walsh, Brian (Bonnie) Walsh, Anne (Brian) Grey, Pat (Mike) Stapleton, John (Lisa) Walsh
Jane’s absence will be felt deeply by her abundant family of nieces and nephews, Darren Walsh (Predeceased), Dana (Andrew) Walsh, Robert (Suzanne) Walsh, Craig (Laura) Walsh, Lisa (Chris) Gwyn, Michael Walsh, Kelly (LeeAnn) Walsh, David (Crystal) Graham, John (Laura) Stapleton), Emily (Trevor) Stapleton, Michael Walsh, and Luke Walsh for whom she loved so deeply.
Jane also leaves behind her many Grandnieces, Grandnephews, and countless honorary family members and friends.
Jane’s journey began on February 26, 1952, in St. Mary’s, Ontario. She was the third of six children, blessed with a childhood enriched by the simplicity and camaraderie of attending a one-room schoolhouse—a fact she often shared with pride.
Jane’s innate curiosity and compassionate heart guided her path from an early age. Nursing beckoned to her as a natural extension of her empathy, leading her to graduate as Class President from St. Joseph’s Regional School of Nursing in 1973. Throughout her career, Jane embodied the true essence of nursing, providing comfort and care to those in need.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Jane’s life overflowed with passions and pursuits. Jane was surrounded by love, as she found her soul mate and partner in crime Joe. Jane and Joe met in 1972 and had their first date on Oct 27, 1972. They united in marriage on May 24, 1975, and their love story continued until this very day. Jane found solace and inspiration within the pages of books, nurtured her spirit in the great outdoors, and shared countless cherished adventures with her beloved beacon of light Winnie. When Jane learned about something new that sounded fun, she threw herself into it with every ounce of enthusiasm.
Jane’s legacy is one of unwavering devotion to faith, family, and friendships. Her genuine love and boundless compassion touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. To encounter Jane was to be embraced by her warmth and kindness, for she had an uncanny ability to extend love to all she met. Her merciful heart knew no bounds; she stood as a beacon of empathy and support, always ready to lend a helping hand on the journey of life. Jane was a devout follower of Christ, and was a member of the CWL for many years. She truly lived her faith.
Jane leaves behind a space that can never be filled. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the honor of sharing in her remarkable presence. Yet, her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those who loved her.
In honoring Jane’s memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering compassion. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will continue to illuminate our paths, guiding us with her eternal light.
Jane’s family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the extraordinary teams at the Palliative Care Unit Victoria Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood hospital, whose unwavering dedication and compassionate care provided comfort and support to our beloved Jane and our family. Special thanks to the Cancer Clinic and the Incredible doctor’s and their teams as we journeyed the last 5 years.

We welcome any who wish to join us, donations can also be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, which was also so close to Jane’s heart.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 o’clock. Prayers will be held Tuesday evening at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Divine, 390 Baseline Road West, on Wednesday morning, April 24 at 11 o’clock. Interment will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date.
