Clarence Arnold da Silva passed away at home in London, Ontario, on Monday, October 14, 2024 with his family by his side, at the age of 94. Dearly beloved husband of Kay Jean (Phang) da Silva, father of Alison Vanderburgh (Gerry), and grandfather of Isaac. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Regina Perreira, Anthony Domingo da Silva, Agnes De Souza, and Anselmo da Silva.
Clarence was born and raised in the Pomeroon River District of Guyana. He lost his father at a young age, which affected him and his family deeply. Though he was afforded little formal education, Clarence was determined and ambitious, so before long he was making his way in the world, eventually, taking the leap into entrepreneurship.
A natural talent for music, he was a great asset at parties, which usually ended with sing-a-longs facilitated by Clarence’s lively guitar playing. He was an avid reader of history, and had a strong interest in language and poetry. He loved watching and playing cricket, which reinforced his strong belief in personal integrity “You should always call yourself out”. His other passions were tennis, golf, chess, and Jeopardy!
Above all his skills however, Clarence is most remembered for being a gentleman in the full meaning of the word. His behaviour, integrity, even-temper, and gentle nature were appreciated by all who knew him.
We are very grateful for the very kind and compassionate palliative care provided by Dr. Kim and the nurses at Saint Elizabeth Health who helped Clarence in his final weeks.
A funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation taking place one hour prior. A reception will follow the service.
