May Ann Peltier Obituary
In Loving Memory of
May Ann Marjorie Peltier
Mehskozit Naanooshkaasehns
May 27, 1947 – June 3, 2024
Our beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, May Ann Marjorie Peltier (Mehskozit Naanooshkaasehns), passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 3, 2024
at the age of 77 years.
Our mom was born on May 27, 1947 in Rabbit Island at the Corbiere family homestead. She grew up helping with the farm and spending time with neighbouring friends. She went to school at the Rabbit Island School, Wiky and St. Mary’s in North Bay. She was an extremely hard worker at everything she did (working at the Little Current Hospital, Sudbury General Hospital, Dr. Bailey’s Office, her businesses and home) and also enjoyed many hobbies with which she always demonstrated great talent. Her prize winning baked and canned goods, plants and sewing won many First Prize ribbons at the Annual Fall Fair. Within the cozy family homestead you would find embroidery and sewing projects on the go, beautiful blooms in the front porch, delicious chowchow, mustard beans, and chilli sauce, and the most delicious pies. (If you hadn’t had her pie, you missed out!) We will never forget the hard work and time she put into raising her family, maintaining her home, and the amazing meals that she lovingly prepared. Mom loved to entertain when family or friends came to visit and loved live music – especially when her sons played. May was an entrepreneur for the majority of her life having owned and operated Peltier’s Snack Bar (32 years) and Scholar Hauler Bus Lines (34 years) with Ozzie. Because of this she had many friends from all over. She always had an appreciation for and never forgot those who were a part of these businesses. Maintaining and driving a bus with 50+ children on board is not an easy thing to do and she did it well. If you knew May you know you couldn’t have asked for a more organized person. Not only did she raise her children while running these businesses she “raised” and nurtured all those who worked for her – building good work ethic in them and preparing them to be productive and successful citizens in their own right. Mom was a devoted member of the Holy Cross Mission Parish and contributed her time as a devout member, Eucharistic Minister and with fundraising activities.
May will be greeted in heaven by her husband of 35 years, Walter (Ozzie); her parents Angeline and Ambrose Corbiere; her brothers Eric and Clifford; and her in-laws Elizabeth and Robert Peltier.
She will always be loved and remembered by her children Blair and Cindy, Aaron and Chrissy, Maureen, and Beverley and Jacob; the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Colin, Jasper Oz, Promise, Alexis, Ava and Christina; her dear sisters Rose (Bill ba) and Grace (Tom ba); her godchildren Mark, Michael ba, Laurie Ann, Rhonda, Connie and Yvette; her sisters-in-law Mary Agnes ba (Scotty ba), Evelyn (Ted), Jeannette (Junior ba), Regina (Glen), Rita and Stella ba; her nieces and nephews; her Corbiere and Wemigwans cousins; her Rabbit Island and Pontiac Ave. neighbours; and her Parish community.
A visitation will be held at the Rabbit Island Centre (757 Rabbit Island Rd.) on Tuesday, June 4th from 1:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Cross Mission (2525 Wikwemikong Way) on Wednesday, June 5th at 11:00 am.
