Mr. Thomas Robert Anderson of Oakwood, Ontario passed away on April 23, 2024 at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. Tom was a loving husband of over 50 years to the late Joan Marie (Urquhart) Anderson, father to daughter Vanessa (Anderson) Rowland and son John Anderson, brother to William Anderson and Shirley (Anderson) Burton and brother-in-law to Marlene (Urquhart) Whalen (NB), Fred Simpson (NB), and Roy Burton. He was preceded by his parents Thomas H.F.W. and Margaret (Robinson) Anderson and his sister Marie (Anderson) Reid. Tom will also be dearly missed by his son-in-law Jeffrey Rowland, daughter-in-law Raelene (Hodgson) Anderson, grandchildren Emmett Anderson, Rachelle (Rowland) Wilson and Devon Rowland, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends in Ontario and New Brunswick.
Mr. Anderson grew up in Islington, Ontario and began farming at a young age on family land; then moved with his family to a farm in Epson, Ontario and eventually settled in Oakwood, Ontario where he raised his own family on Farmstead Farm. While he worked the land he traveled across Canada as a Steeplejack for Custodis Canadian Chimney Company for many years; later doing machine work and trucking for Whitaker Plastics as well as carpentry, roofing and baking. He continued to bake, build, work with his hands and could fix almost anything until his passing.
Tom was considered by all who knew him as a man of many talents and often referred to as “Macgyver”. He was lovingly teased that he could run circles around people half his age, by family, friends and those he worked with. All his life, Tom loved hunting, fishing, working with his hands, helping anyone in need, and always was eager to kid around. Tom was an active member since 1968 and held office in the Mason’s Fidelity Lodge 428 in Port Perry until his passing. As Worshipful Master and Past Master, he recently received his 50 Year Jewel. Before his wife’s passing, Tom and Joan were also elders of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Cresswell, Ontario.
A celebration of Tom and Joan Anderson’s lives will be held on June 8, 2024 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church from 1 to 4pm. The family would like others to share any stories, memories or pictures to create a memory album in their honour. Please contact his family at jtr.anderson@outlook.com for additional details of the celebration or to contribute to the memory album. An interment of cremated remains will take place at the Acadian Loyalist Cemetery in Hampton, NB where he will rest at his wife’s side.
If desired, donations to the St. John’s Presbyterian Church would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made through Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay, ON or online at stoddartfunneralhome.com via cheque or credit card.
