Carmichael, Ronald Gordon – Passed away at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay joining his mother Joyce, father John, younger brother Brian, sister-in-law Shelley, and dog Whiskey in Heaven on Monday, June 3, 2024.
Ron was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 4, 1948, and he always professed that only the Americans knew how to properly celebrate his birth.
Left to miss him is his wife Donna of 55 years, and adored son Scott. He also had a very loving family who supported him mightily in his last days as he had done in his turn as the oldest of five boys, these were in order of appearance; Bob (Susan), Gary (Georgina), Brian (Shelley – both predeceased), and Brad (Megan). He will be missed by mulitple generations of nieces and nephews.
When Ron and Donna met, his family lived three doors down from Donna. Both Ron and Donna worked at the Dominion Store in West Hill In 1966, Ron’s mother encouraged him to give “that poor girl” a ride so she doesn’t walk home at night in the dark on her own.
She lived to regret that as they fell in love and married in February 1969. They recently celebrated their 55th Anniversary.
In 1988, Scott entered the picture and became the light of his mother and father’s life.
Ron became a police officer in June 1968 and stayed with the OPP for the first six and a half years of that career. Then he joined the Peel Regional Force and stayed for another twenty-five. He retired in 1999 and they moved to the Kawartha Lakes area in 2000 to be near his family. This meant that their son Scott could have a dog, and Whiskey came into their lives becoming very precious to everyone.
Ron loved having big family get-togethers and BBQ’s even though these were restricted in his last year or so. He also loved watching sports on TV, and used to enjoy boating, fishing, and golf in younger years.
Family and friends are invited to call to the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay on Saturday, June 8th from 11:00am until time of service in the chapel at 12:00pm. Reception to follow.
If desired, a memorial donation to Community Living Kawartha Lakes, or Participation House (Durham) in Bowmanville.
