Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, hockey and rugby mom and everyone’s favorite tour guide extraordinaire. Judith (Judy) Ann Silverthorn (Hunter) passed peacefully on Wednesday August 14, 2024 surrounded by her family and friends at Ross Memorial Hospital. Judy was born in Cornwall Ontario April 12, 1949 before moving to Lindsay Ontario in 1952 where she graduated from Queen Victoria Public School, Central Senior Public School and Lindsay Collegiate Vocational Institute Class of 1967. Post high school Judy started working at the Ministry of Finance, Regional assessment office.
Family holidays were always a special time for Judy, filled with laughter, love and cherished traditions. She treasured the moments spent with the families of Pat and Barb many countless memories were made and a great family bond. Judy will be greatly missed as holidays will forever be a reminder of the love they shared.
Judy had numerous groups of friends and bonds with many. Whether it was the hockey parents of Chris and Todd, who became lifelong friends, to all the families and visitors of Pleasant Point over the years. Years of traveling to small towns with the Kawartha Kavaliers and all her coworkers, all playing a big part in her life. Judy was as competitive as anyone and that was shared with her Friday night card crew over many glasses of wine and laughs. One common denominator was that once she made friends with someone, they were friends for life.
After retirement Judy found her true calling as a tour guide with Cardinal Tours. She loved to travel and entertain, so it was a perfect fit for her. Visiting many cities, landmarks, and events all over Canada and the United States, telling jokes at the front of her bus and caring for all her passengers. She always had a story, local tip or a hidden gem for every tour, city or ballpark she visited.
Our family would like to take this time to personally thank all of the professional medical personnel that played a role in our mom’s medical journey over the past three years. Linda Staples and the late Melissa O’Neil and the rest of the amazing individuals on the bus home from Nashville on that fateful Day in December of 2021. Dr. Catherine Cox and Nurse Practitioner Michelle Sanderson for going above and beyond to assist mom in her medical fight over the last three years. Paramed Homecare and their staff, the numerous nurses and staff at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and the amazing staff at the Ross Memorial hospital palliative unit. Your professionalism, compassion and care of our mom was second to none.
Mom was selfless and always put others first. She was fun loving, outgoing and vivacious. She was an example to so many and a shining light to all who knew her. When you think of Judy, make sure you remember the good times and celebrate the good memories you have of her. Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest. She will be missed more than any words could express but she will forever be in our hearts till we meet again.
We invite everyone to join us to celebrate mom’s life on Sunday October 6th at the Lindsay Rugby Club: 67 Vince Jones Rd. Lindsay Ontario from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
