SOBKO, John – Passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the age of 96. Born in St. Catharines to parents Margaret and Nicholas Sobko. John married Shirley Sobko (née Colley), and had 30 years of a loving and happy life. John was an active community member in Fenelon Falls where he and Shirley started the IGA Grocery Store and built it for over 25 years. While living in Fenelon Falls, John was an active member of the rotary club, other town events, and supporting local teams. Together John and Shirley, enjoyed spending summers at the cottage on Cameron Lake with their family. John is the loving father to David, Paul (Teri), Joanne, Kathryn, and Murray Sobko. John cherished his grandchildren; Nicole, Jodie, Andrea, Alison, Courtney, Adrian, Daniel, Nathan, Jake, Kate, and Avery, and his great-grandchildren; Maks, Nate, Olivia, Jorjia, Emma, and ???. For John’s second 30-year marriage, he met Jessie (at the age of 62), and they were married in 1990. Together they spent over 20 winters in Tucson and Arizona, and enjoyed doing crafts together and both took up painting. John became a real master at calligraphy, and his family always enjoyed receiving beautifully written cards that showcased his talents. John was Jessie’s roady in her band, as they played around the Kawartha’s. John was an outstanding man. His kindness was memorable and John made a positive impact on everyone he met. He had a full life with many friends and family. Visitation will take place at Celebrations, Lindsay on Friday, July 12th from 11:00am until time of funeral service at 12:00pm. Interment will take place at Fenelon Falls Cemetery. If desired a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
