William “Earl” Manley entered into rest peacefully surrounded by his family at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in his 95th year. Beloved husband of the late Marilyn Manley (Trent) for 61 years. Loving father of Stuart, Hugh (deceased), Douglas (Norma), Jayne (Malcolm). Cherished grandfather of Mark (Nikki), Lucas (Alana), Jacob (Alison), Michael (Katherine), Christine (Mike) Andrew (Eleni) and by great grandchildren Nora, Trent, Colt, Walker and Grace.
Earl will be dearly remembered by Georgina whom he shared so much joy, laughter and love over the past 4 years.
Earl was predeceased by his parents Hilton and Beatrice Manley, founders of Manley Motors in 1933. He joined the dealership in 1945 at the age of 16. Following the passing of his father in 1961, he inherited Manley Motors Ltd. Times were challenging in the beginning but, under his management, the dealership thrived for another 59 years.
Earl Manley was a man of deep faith and unwavering generosity, a shining example of how one can live with purpose and love. His spiritual journey was marked by his active involvement in both the local church and the Masonic Lodge in Lindsay, Ontario, where he forged lifelong connections and served his community with steadfast devotion. His faith guided him, and he often joked, “I have a direct line to the Guy Upstairs.” But those who knew him recognized that it wasn’t just a saying – it was a reflection of the life he lived. Earl’s generosity extended far beyond words, as he supported both local and international charities. He was a principal patron of the Boys and Girls Club and Ross Memorial Hospital, always giving with an open heart and quiet humility. Whenever asked how he was doing, Earl would beam and say, “I’m in the top drawer”, a testament to his positive spirit and gratitude for life. He often remarked, “If I died tomorrow, I’ve had a great life.” And indeed, he did. His life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and community – a life well-lived, full of love, and one that will forever inspire those who had the honor of knowing him.
Throughout their life Mom and Dad enjoyed spending time together and with family and friends. Boating was one of dad’s passions and he and mom also enjoyed travelling across North America in their RV.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hainer for his many years caring for Dad, the Ross Memorial Hospital doctors and nurses for their attentive care and the Palliative Care team for endless compassion shown throughout Dad’s final journey. A special thank you to the Adelaide Place staff for providing such an amazing ‘home away from home’ for Dad. He always said “If you can’t be at home, this is the place to be.”
