Amelia Ricci Obituary
RICCI, Amelia (nee Ingratta)
April 5, 1927 – December 18, 2024
Passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Erie Shores Hospice, at the age of 97. She was a long-time Leamington resident and will be very fondly remembered and greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched both in Canada and in her native Italy. Beloved wife of the late Virginio (2022) with whom she shared 72 years of marriage. Dear mother of Margaret Ingratta (Nick), Jack Ricci (Julia), Frank Ricci (Laurie), Nino Ricci (Erika), Roni Ricci (Julie), Rina Hyland (Brian) and the late Marisa Ricci (1954).
Loving Grandma of Gene (Amy), Paul (Nadia), Nicholas (Lisa), Jacquelyn (Neil), James (Dina), Jina, Marissa (Joshua), Andrea (Vince), Nicole, Sarah (Ivel), Virginia (Ranjan), Luca, Jordan (Ainhoa), Ashley, William (Shelby), Virginia, Matthew (Madeline) and Great-Grandma of Maverick, Isabella, Oliver, Roslyn, Mateo, Amelia, Joseph, Gloria, Serena, Devon, Tyler, Anusha, Isaac, and Madison.
Dear sister-in-law of Ascenzina (late Diego) Mastronardi and Livia Mastronardi. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, family here and in Italy and her Chartwell companions.
Amelia was born in 1927 in the village of Villa Canale, Italy to her parents Erminio and Maria Libera (nee DiMenna) Ingratta. She is the last survivor of 11 siblings and their spouses. She immigrated to Canada in 1954. Amelia and her husband, Virginio, raised their six children and built up a prosperous greenhouse operation. In 1983 they sold the farm to build a dream home on Hwy. 77, where they continued to keep their hand in farming with a small peach orchard and market garden. Amelia was a lifelong learner, always pushing herself to better herself. She learned to speak English and was able to get her driver’s licence after the age of 50. Her favourite passions included playing Scopa, bocce, watching Italian soap-operas and interacting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Amelia and Virginio travelled the world together, having visited dozens of countries on five continents. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom looked to her as the matriarch of the family and will miss her sorely, are extremely proud of the legacy she leaves behind.
A special thank you to the entire staff at Chartwell Leamington, for their dedicated compassion shown to Amelia over the past 5 years and to Erie Shores Hospice, for their unwavering kindness and care during the last days of her life.
