With heavy hearts the family of Peggy Biederman announce her peaceful passing on October 26 at the Waterloo Hospice with family by her side.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her loving husband Glenn of 67 years, her daughters Cindy Biederman (Willy Galarraga) and Julia Biedermann (Bob Bordignon), grandchildren (Katrina, Nyssa, Christian, Romana) and great-grandchildren (Danny, Remi, Franky, Rhea).
Peggy was the youngest, and last surviving, of six children born to Orley and Minota Uffelman. She grew up in Waterloo attending Elizabeth Ziegler Public School, Kitchener Collegiate Institute and Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier University). Peggy was one of only four women to graduate with a Bachelor of Secretarial Science from WLU in 1957. She met her husband, Glenn, while at WLU and they married in 1958.
Peggy was a full partner in a successful packaging business that she and Glenn purchased in 1965. She applied the business skills she learned at university and kept impeccable financial records for over 45 years as the business grew and underwent many changes.
Peggy and Glenn resided in Milton for many years where they raised their daughters. After several moves, in 2002, they relocated to Kitchener-Waterloo to be close to their daughters, who also live here.
Peggy and Glenn had a wonderful life together. With Glenn’s support and encouragement, Peggy learned to ski and play tennis, becoming quite adept at both. They enjoyed many family ski vacations to Quebec, the Canadian and US West, and Switzerland. In the mid 70’s, Peggy followed Glenn’s adventurous spirit and went heli-skiing in the Bugaboos and the Monashees, a truly unique experience at that time. Peggy belonged to several tennis clubs including Cedar Springs in Burlington and Northfield Racquet Club in Waterloo. She was a left-handed player with a mean serve that Glenn said would surprise even expert players. Peggy and Glenn travelled the world together including India, Australia, Africa, and many countries in Europe, especially Germany where their granddaughter lived for several years.
Peggy and Glenn had a wonderful and close relationship with their daughters that continues to this day. Many weekend visits when the girls lived out of town, vacations to Venezuela and ski trips to Mount Tremblant with young grandchildren, golf games with Cindy and Julia, and summer vacations at the family cottage in McGregor Bay (aptly named Peggy’s Cove).
Forever in our hearts. Loved and remembered always.
Special thanks are extended to Peggy’s family doctor, Dr. Ernest Hahn for his compassionate and attentive care to Peggy in her last few months, to the wonderful and caring staff at Doon Retirement Village, and to Dr. Tan and the nurses, staff and volunteers at Waterloo Hospice.
