Passed away, surrounded by family, on October 28, 2024, at Grand River Hospital, in Kitchener, ON at the age of 79.
Loving husband of 56 years to Miriam McAuley (nee Peet). Cherished father of Jason (Molly) McAuley and Andrea (Josh) McAuley-Ancich. Proud papa of Jacob and Carson Ancich, and Madison Simpkins. Dear brother of Patricia (late Jim) Tristram and John (Carol) McAuley. Brother-in-law of Yvonne (late Han) Verdonkschot-Peet. Predeceased by his parents John McAuley and Catherine (nee Higgins), his sister Stella McCoy (Frank), his brother Tom McAuley (Glenda), and his step-mother Mary McCarney.
Luke will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.
Luke was a lifelong, dedicated employee of Mutual Life, where he spent over 40 years working. In his spare time and retirement, he was heavily involved with his community through the KW Kinsmen Club, and his church. Luke was devoted to Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church for 35 years, where he ushered for 20 of those years. Luke enjoyed singing with the Fireside Voices and the church’s Funeral Choir. When at home, Luke enjoyed tending to his garden and loved driving through the country on his motorcycle – he loved that bike. He and Miriam cherished spending time at friends’ cottages with their children and grandchildren, and they loved to travel. Luke, a proud Papa, will be fondly remembered for his fishing trips and time on the golf course.
Special thank you to the staff at Grand River Hospital for their compassion and care towards Luke.
