Douglas W. Powers went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Predeceased by his wife, Sheila Lindsey Powers (March 2009), step son Derek (1970), his parents, Harry (1998) and Jenny (nee Deans, 2015) Powers. Survived by a brother Don (Karen) Powers and their children, Lisa, Robin and Bobby, two sisters, Gail (Ron) Vannieuwenhuiyze and their children, Jenny and Ann Marie. Debra (Gil Sr.) Alexander and their children, Tina, Terri and Gilbert Jr. Douglas was the nephew of Evelyn Reeve. Predeceased by his special friend and brother the late Garth Wright, special friend and sister, the late Rev. Susan Jolley and the late Doug and surviving wife, Helene Hanley. He will be deeply missed by his cat Sunshine, a loving and caring creation of God Himself. Doug was founder and director of Redeemer of Love Ministry, a registered charitable organization from 1979 until his retirement in 2005. He was a pulpit supply minister and organist in several churches in the community, as well as a soloist at weddings and funerals. Doug sang in the Choir of Christ Church and many other choirs in the community.
Funeral service to be held at the New Maple Leaf Cemetery Mausoleum on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Entombment to follow in the family crypt where Doug will be laid to rest beside his wife Sheila. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to Gideon’s International Canada, (P.O. Box 3619, Station Main, 501 Imperial Rd. N., Guelph, ON N1H 6T9), Christ Church, (80 Wellington St. W., Chatham, ON N7M1J1), the Choir of Christ Church, (80 Wellington St. W., Chatham, ON N7M1J1) or the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Kendrick Funeral Home, Chatham.
Doug will now be joined in Heaven with his beloved wife Sheila and many loved ones who have gone on before. Doug’s passion in life was helping and loving those that were hurting and lonely and wanted his life to be used as a vessel of God’s love to bring love, kindness and joy to those that felt they were forgotten in life.
