Marguerite “Peggy” Murphy-Huber – passed away surrounded by her loving family at her side in Kingston (ON), on Sunday October 8, 2023, at the age of 91.
Peggy was born on April 19, 1932, in Philipsburg (QC), to the late, Thomas and Lillian Smith. She was the youngest, and last surviving, of five siblings, whom she loved dearly.
Marrying her first love, Emmett Murphy, in Montreal in 1956, they created a beautiful life together until his passing in 1982. They are survived by their three children: Ronald (Sandra), Gregory, Robert (Danita), and former daughter-in-law, Perrin. Over the years she welcomed 6 grandchildren: Valerie (Daniel), Heather, Brendan (Kyla), David, Shawn, and Steven (Robyn); and 4 great-grandchildren: Ellie, Emmett, Briar, and Wesley. Deeply devoted to her family, she was always proud of each of their achievements and didn’t shy from giving them loving advice filled with life lessons.
Later in life, she married her second husband, Ferdinand ‘Mike’ Huber II, in 1998. They spent many wonderful years together until he passed in 2011. They are also survived by his children from a former marriage: Nancy, Ferdinand ‘Mike’ III (Rebecca), and David (Lynn) and preceded in death by Nancy’s late husband, Larry.
Peggy was warm, graceful, and charming, with an unmatched sense of humour. She is remembered for passionately serving on the Alter Guilds at the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal in Sarasota (FL) and St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Scarborough (ON). She formed many lasting friendships over the years, touching lives with her unwavering kindness and listening ear. With her one-of-a-kind sparkle, she will be remembered by all.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in Quebec with details to follow, and she will be laid to rest with her dear Emmett at Philipsburg Protestant Cemetery (QC).
