With sadness in our hearts, we would like share that Kanaiyalal (Kanu) Chaganlal Desai passed away peacefully this past week after a long illness.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Bharati; children Mahir and Himansu; grandchildren Naomi, Ravi, and Devan; daughters-in-law Heena and Ruth; and siblings Balwant, Hansa, and Asa. Kanu is predeceased by his parents Chaganlal and Parvati as well as his eldest brother Amrutlal. In addition to those mentioned above, Kanu will also be fondly remembered and missed by many extended family members and friends both locally in Canada, as well as in India and other countries abroad.
Born in Parujan, Gujarat and raised in Navapur, Maharashtra, Kanu obtained his higher education and lived and worked in Mumbai before emigrating to Canada in 1971 where he was joined by his wife and children the following year. Kanu and Bharati settled, worked, and raised their family in Toronto and were active members in the growing Gujarati and Anavil communities in the greater Toronto area from the 1970s till 2013 when they moved to Kingston Ontario. Kanubhai passed away in his 93rd year of life in Kingston, Ontario.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday October 19th, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Wartman Funeral Home, 980 Collins Bay Road, Kingston, Ontario. For those not able to attend the service in person but are interested in joining us virtually please go the funeral home website where you will find the Zoom link under the service details on Kanu’s memorial page.
The funeral service will be followed by a procession for participating family members to Ganonoque, Ontario for a private family cremation. Others in attendance are invited to join us for a reception with food and refreshments that will begin in the late am after the service for friends and family in remembrance and celebration of Kanu’s life. Details on location to follow (check for updates on this listing) which will also be provided and confirmed at the Service.
Kanu’s family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful and exceptional care and treatment that Kanubhai received from the staff of the Kingston Health Science Centre. We would especially like to thank the staff at the Intensive Care Unit for their care in his final days.
