Agnes June Hatfield, lovingly known as Aggie June, AJ, Granny June, and June, peacefully passed away at age 83 with her faithful husband by her side, on October 10, 2023 in Kingston, Ont.
June was born on May 22, 1940 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to John and Mary Lyons. June graduated with a nursing degree at Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax in 1962. Nursing was the perfect career for June – she was the most nurturing, attentive woman. During her time in Halifax, a young engineer-to-be by the name of Doug Hatfield was introduced to her and he was smitten from day one. Unfortunately, when he tried to call her dormitory to ask her on a date, he couldn’t remember her name. He spent days trying to track down “Effie May”. Luckily, Doug and June’s paths fatefully crossed again, and this began a 61-year love story that resulted in three children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
June was known for her infectious energy and zest for life. She was fiery, full of passion and ambition, and eager to adventure. She never met a stranger. June had an incredible knack for storytelling. She shared her many stories with all who would listen.
June is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Lyons, and her sister, Jan. She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Hatfield, her sisters Rosemary and Jodi, her brother John, her children, Kelly Whitehead, Jim Hatfield, and Alan Hatfield, and their spouses Jeff Whitehead, Marta Hatfield, and Lisa Hatfield, as well as her grandchildren, Nicole Dizdar (Duke Dizdar), Jillian Hatfield (Craig Buckley), Charlie Hatfield, and Julieta Hatfield, and three great-grandchildren, Georgia Beth Dizdar, Marko Dizdar and Marin Dizdar.
June lived a full and colorful life. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
