Barr, Joan Daphne (nee Franklin)
April 20, 1926 – January 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of our amazing Mum, Grammie and GG, Joan Barr in her 98th year on Monday, January 8, 2024 at PCC Hospital.
Joan was born in London, England the third of four daughters. She met Lorne during the war and they married on August 4 1945. Joan moved to Canada in 1946 and sons Kenny and Garry arrived not too long after, followed by Glenda.
Joan worked tirelessly for her family and others often while working outside the home. She was a self-taught talented baker and cook. On top of baking for her family, she also spent many hours baking for friends, the Royal Canadian Legion and the churches she attended.
Joan was incredibly loved and will be dearly missed by her son Garry (Cheryl Storring) and daughter Glenda (Jeff Allison) of Calgary. Cherished Grammie of Greg (Laura) Barr of Orleans, ON, Kelly Wood (Mark Ewing), Nicole (Steve) Emmons, Sarah Barr (Troy Dano) all of Kingston and Braeden and Jarrett Allison of Calgary. Fondly remembered by daughter-in-law Sandra Barr and step-grandsons: Fraser (Harley) and Brock (Vivian) McArthur. A very special GG to Ashleigh, Isabella, Willow, Nolan, Jordyn, Carlos, Verity, Wyatt, Macie-Marie and Jackson. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Lorne (2004) and her eldest son Kenneth (2005) as well as by her parents and sisters Audrey, Joyce and Pam.
A visitation will be held at James Reid Funeral Home on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10:00 – 10:50 am. The funeral service will take place in the chapel at 11:00 am followed by a reception with a private family burial after.
In lieu of flowers, Joan and family request donations to the Kingston Humane Society or Breast Cancer Action Kingston & South East Ontario.
Garry and Glenda would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Hacking for her many years of excellent care for their mum. Lastly, their gratitude to the PCC Parkside 1 staff and doctors especially Dr. Sean Goldhar for his compassionate care of our mother during her stay. You are a true blessing for seniors and their families in the Kingston community.
