Jeffrey Elliott Agnew Obituary
Jeffrey Elliott Agnew
August 25, 1943 – July 7, 2024
We are deeply saddened to announce that Jeffrey aka Jeff or “Jeffy Donut”, passed surrounded by his family, at Kingston Health Sciences Centre in his 81st year. He is survived by his loving wife Heather of 59 years, daughters Sherri and Leanne (John O’Mara), grandsons Angus (Ashley) and Ben (Hayley), brothers Philip (Mary) and David, and a large extended family.
Predeceased by brother Courtney, parents Ruth Elliott and Fred Agnew.
Jeffrey was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up in the Milton, ON area on farms. Jeff’s career began working in the grocery business at A&P. He worked his way up from a young lettuce trimmer in the produce department to managing the largest stores in the GTA, a career lasting 20 years. Jeff met Heather Marie Clarke and they were married in Georgetown on June 5, 1965. Wanting more opportunities for their family, Jeff and Heather purchased Tim Hortons store #15 in Kingston in 1981. Jeff and Heather grew their business as Kingston grew, along with Sherri, Leanne and son-in-law John.
As a proud Tim Hortons franchisee for over 40 years, Jeff was a force within the brand, bringing Timbits Sports to Kingston, supporting countless organizations through donations such as the Smile Cookie Campaign, and was always an avid supporter of our Tim Hortons Foundation Camps. Jeff has been recognized in the Kingston community as Business Person of the Year, Men in Business Cover Winner for the Kingston Whig Standard and was a member of the Ad and Sales Club, The Rotary Club of Kingston and the Kingston Business Hall of Fame.
An avid sportsman, Jeff played hockey, baseball, golf and was a fishing and boating enthusiast as well as a huge fan of NASCAR. Jeff also loved to garden.
Jeff was devoted to and incredibly proud of his family and was a wonderful friend and mentor to many. Those who knew him will remember him as kind, generous, charming, driven to succeed, hard-working and fun-loving. He lived life on his own terms and to the fullest.
The family is very grateful for the excellent care that Jeff received on Davies 4 ICU, Kidd 7 and from the palliative care team at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
As per Jeff’s wishes cremation has already taken place and the family will be accepting visitors at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
Donations to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation or Tim Hortons Foundation Camps in Jeff’s name would be greatly appreciated.
