Jean Ann; SHINN
January 14, 1932 – November 3, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Shinn (née Kramer) on November 3rd 2024, in her 93rd year. She passed away peacefully at her home in Ottawa with her husband Ronald by her side.
Jean and Ronald were inseparable throughout their 72+ years of marriage.
Loved and cherished Mom of Brad (Hélène) and Tracy Deacon (Colin). Grandmother to Paul Bekolay (Emily), Kayla Shinn, and Steven Bekolay (Merridith) and Great-Grandmother to Charlotte, Thomas, Charlie, Matti and Kaila. Predeceased by parents Verne & Luella Kramer and brothers Lorne and Ronald and sister Doris Grant.
Jean’s priority in her life was always her family. She was the glue for our family ensuring all were looked after and providing care whenever needed. Will be most missed on those traditional family gatherings. Originally from Waterloo, Jean and Ron moved to Ottawa in 1963 to establish a new home and raise their family. In 1991, following Ron’s retirement they moved to Kingston for the milder winters. They returned to Ottawa to live at the Carlingwood Retirement Community in 2022 to be closer to family. Throughout the years, Jean was an avid curler being a member of City View Curling Club (Ottawa) and the Cataraqui Curling Club (Kingston). Never missing a chance to play or watch an event. Jean and Ron did a lot of travel once they retired, while enjoying all the adventures, for Jean, the highlight was always her return home. In her younger years she was a principal soprano in the Chordon Choir and the Mutual Life Choir in Waterloo. Jean was an avid reader, always with a couple books on the go. Also important were her dogs (and her love of all animals), they all became family members and provided her years of company and exercise on her many walks.
We want to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lisa Rosenkrantz for her unprecedented personal care and support she provided to Jean. As well we want to thank the nurses and PSW’s from Bayshore Home Care, as well as the support staff from the Carlingwood Retirement Community.
As per her wishes, there will be a private family interment in Kingston.
