Janet Troughton Obituary
TROUGHTON, Janet (nee Cole)
August 16, 1939 – March 9, 2024
“Beloved friend and mother”
The family of the late Janet Troughton are holding a celebration of her life on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston (entering from the rear parking lot doors).
Our dear mother was born in Picton, daughter of the late Jack and Lena Cole, and sister of the late Sheila and John. She was the loving mother of Tom, Jack and Caitlin, grandmother of Ariane, Emma, Devon, Ailish, Solenn and Emma, and great grandmother of Éloïk and Bonnie.
Janet worked at the Ban Righ Centre for over 25 years (starting in the mid seventies). She started a small business in the late eighties providing a home away from home for international students, and then continued to open her home to friends and family for the rest of her life. Throughout all those years, Janet offered loving support and encouraged people to grow and be themselves. She made many friends along the way and we often heard stories of how she made room for others by stepping back and allowing them to shine. Her smile was known to light up a room.
Janet was creative and thoughtful. A lifelong reader, expressive painter, knitter and excellent listener, she continued to educate herself and learn new things, demonstrating a love for life and all it had to offer.
In keeping with Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place. If you can, please join us to celebrate her. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Ban Righ Foundation.
