Alice Gordon Obituary
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the great age of 98, Isobel Gordon (nee Wallace) died peacefully with family and friends by her side. The daughter of Ron Wallace and Helen Wallace (nee Bennett) of Kingston, Ontario, she was predeceased by her five sisters, Helen (Thomas Jones), Elsie (Tom Fairweather), Jean (Allen Burgham), Betty (Don Hubble) and Mildred. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews of three generations.
Isobel was deeply committed to her faith, and it provided her with great strength and comfort throughout her life. She expressed in her last hours that she had had a happy and fulfilling life and that she had no regrets but only the most wonderful memories. As she lay dying, she smiled at every reference to her family and to the experiences throughout a life well-lived.
She was a proud Kingstonian, particularly the contribution made to the city by her grandparents and forebearers over many generations, including those like her father and grandfather who quarried, shaped and built many of the stone buildings of the Limestone City. Her other family members include the Bennetts of Kingston who have been at the centre of city governance for over a hundred years.
Thanks to the many people who cared for her including her niece Catherine West, the many staff of St Lawrence Place, Karen Laidlaw, her numerous friends of Meadowbrook Bible Chapel (especially Matt, Laura, Lydia and Katie), Colleen Thornton and her cousins Bob Martin and Barbara Gilbert. Also thank you to the many members of the medical care community (especially Dr Lukka as well as Dr Milne and the rest of the KGH Emergency Care Team).
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard. There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, interment and reception to follow. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in-person. In lieu of flowers friends are invited to send a donation to a charity of their choice.
