Irene Parkes (née Soutar)
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Irene Dorothy Parkes (née Soutar), on October 5, 2023, at the age of 92. Irene is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Edith Soutar.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Peter Parkes, sister-in-law Patricia Isberg, one niece, and eight nephews.
After spending most of her childhood in Montreal, Irene met the love of her life and married Peter in 1953. They spent many happy years in Montreal enjoying much love and laughter with dear friends including the McLean’s and Desmarais’ before settling in Kingston in 1974.
Irene nurtured her friendships and enjoyed spending time with many close friends and neighbors. She was known for her kindness, elegance and sharp wit and was a beautiful role model of thoughtfulness and compassion.
She was always grateful for everything life had to offer but above all else for the 70 wonderful years she spent with Peter by her side.
Peter would like to thank the many family, friends and neighbors who have assisted them during her illness with a special thanks to the Isberg and Surette families for their support during this difficult time.
Cremation has been entrusted to the James Reid Funeral Home. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at a later date.
