Helen Elizabeth Carscallen Obituary
Helen Elizabeth (Belding) Carscallen
June 24, 1923 – June 24, 2024
It is with sadness and love that we announce the passing of Helen Elizabeth Carscallen on her 101st birthday, at Rideaucrest Home in Kingston.
Helen is survived by her son Frederick of North Battleford, Sask. and her daughter Janice (Randy) of Bath.
Many grandchildren filled Helen’s life with love and, as much as they tried to claim title, there were no favourites. Missing her today are Alexia (Jason), Peter (Elizabeth), Alexander (Jane), Aislyn (Curtis), Caitlin, Karli (Mike), Benjamin (Brittany), and Sydney (Rob).
In the last years, Helen was excited to become a great-grandmother, and GG was a title she cherished. She is now guiding over Peter, Caleb, Evangeline, Mordecai, John and Corbin from above. A few months ago, Helen found out that there were three new babies coming in the Fall. This brought her no end of delight. We know that she is with them now, keeping them safe until they make their arrival earthside.
Helen was predeceased by her soulmate and husband, Mac Carscallen, her son Sydney, husband Vincent Doyle, and her parents Oscar James and Marguerite (Sharkey) Belding. She is also now joining her brothers and sisters who went before – Sister Patricia, Gerald (Bud), Donald, Joan, Arnold, Guylyn, Ronald James (Jim), and Roselyn (Hedy).
Helen loved all of her many nieces and nephews, as well as her large Sharkey/Belding families. Some of her favourite memories involved her large extended family.
It’s hard to encapsulate 101 years of living and do it justice. She was born in Saint John, NB and remained an East Coaster in her heart. Her early adult life took her to Nova Scotia, back to New Brunswick, and finally to Kingston, Ontario where she lived since 1965.
Her accomplishments were many, there was tragedy and heartache, and there was love, always love. She was kind, gentle, warm, funny, sweet, smart, strong, and she loved a good party. She was the best mother a girl could ask for.
In the words of her grandson, Ben:
“I hope you know that we only fought over who was your favourite, because you were ours.”
We will miss you and always love you SO MUCH.
A Celebration of a Life Well Lived will be planned for a later date.
