Bob Hamilton Obituary
Bob (Robert) Hamilton
1942 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of deeply loved husband and father Bob Hamilton, not long after his 83rd birthday, surrounded by family at Kingston General Hospital on June 12th. Bob is survived by Beverly (nee Storey), his wife of 54 years, his two (perfectly behaved and angelic) daughters Lisa and Lee-Ann, and his sister Sylvia LaPlante. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their children, who all held a special place in his heart. Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, Burt and Violet Hamilton, and his loving brother and sisters Doris Revine, Gladys Blodgett, Bruce Hamilton, and Phyllis MacNeil.
Bob was born and raised (and created much mischief) in Gananoque, Ontario surrounded by family. Bob worked many years for Celanese, driving back and forth to Gananoque for shift work having many laughs and adventures on the way. He and Beverly married, later moving to Kingston with their growing family where he eventually worked for Prudential, London Life, and Canadian Tire (likely just to get closer to all those tools, and why not get paid seeing as he was already at the store every day).
Throughout his life Bob valued family and friends, he worked hard to support his family and was quick to lend a friend a helping hand. He lived his faith quietly with dignity and warmth. He was welcoming, thoughtful, playful, loved animals, and made friends easily.
Bob enjoyed vacations with Bev and the family, whether to Florida, Jamaica, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, or later in life on road trips and adventures throughout British Columbia. He was happiest when surrounded by family.
He was lighthearted, and was quick to laugh at a joke, often ending up in long fits of laughter with his daughters that resulted in many tears of joy.
He loved being busy with projects around the house, so much so that rooms would find themselves painted another colour unnecessarily, his daughters had to provide him with a to do list when he would visit, and the lawn would get mowed whether it needed it or not.
Bob will be truly missed by family and friends.
Please join us in a celebration of Bob’s life on Saturday, July 6th 12-2pm at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard), please enter through the rear doors. Memories and words of love to be shared beginning at 12:30pm, followed by a brief graveside service at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens at 2:30pm.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Kingston General Hospital, to Dr. Franklin, Dr. Zaza, and Dr. Robinson of the KHSC Cancer Clinic who provided Bob with such compassionate care.
Memorial donations can be made to the Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) or the Canadian Cancer Society for Head and Neck Cancer research in Bob’s honour.
