Obituary
Betty Haley, beloved mother and friend, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, at the age of 88. She was born in Buctouche, New Brunswick, on April 7, 1935, to Doris Gordon Smith and Orrin Grant Whitney. After graduating from Moncton High School, she entered the workforce. In 1954, Betty married Paul Douglas Haley in Sackville, New Brunswick. As a mother, she devoted herself to providing her children with love, support and guidance. Betty was a championship curler, an active volunteer at her childrens’ school, Brownies (Snowy Owl), and coached a girl’s hockey team for many years. She was the family’s “Mrs. Fixit” and an excellent seamstress, producing many creative Halloween costumes. An avid knitter, Betty enjoyed attending craft sales, where she sold her sweaters. Betty loved spending time at the family cottage in Baie Verte, New Brunswick. She also enjoyed antique hunting and listening to classical music, especially Pacobel. Her favourite song was “A Summer Place,” as it reminded her of where she met her husband, Doug. A lover of all animals, Betty was especially fond of dogs.
Betty leaves behind her daughters, Kim Schweyer (Brantford), Pamela Haley (Kingston), and Cindy Renaud (Peter, Belleville), grandson Joshua Renaud (Belleville), her sister Wanda Jonah (Hillsborough, New Brunswick) and many nieces and nephews.
