Beatrice Andrews Obituary
ANDREWS, Beatrice Mary
November 17, 1927 – October 14, 2024
Lifetime member Royal Canadian Legion
In the wee hours of October 14th, Beatrice Mary Andrews (nee Coutts), our beautiful mom, grandma, and great grandma, left us. Predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Alice, brother Ronald, sisters Vivian, Dorothy, Olive, Elsie, Vera, and Marge, beloved husband Jack, and son Ron, Bea is survived by daughter Evelyne Bell (Graham), son Barry (Julie), daughter-in-law Gwen, six cherished grandchildren, and ten treasured great grandchildren.
Bea grew up in Newdale, Manitoba. At seventeen, she set off for teachers college in Winnipeg, then held class for grades 1 through 12, all in a one-room schoolhouse, deep in West Manitoba’s farm country. Bea married Jack in 1947, had two kids, moved to Kenora, Ontario, and added one more to the family. Bea and Jack always kept everyone safe, warm and well fed, often from the fresh and canned produce from her sprawling vegetable garden. In 1968, Bea and Jack became business owners, taking over and expanding the Grandview Motel. As their extended family continued to grow, Bea and Jack retired back to their beloved Minnedosa, the town where they first met.
Widowed nearly forty years ago, Bea worked tirelessly in the Women’s Auxiliary of Royal Canadian Legion #138, organizing meals for retirees, rising to Sergeant at Arms, and proudly carrying the colours in numerous parades. Bea moved back to Ontario in 2012 so she could be closer to family in Kingston. In the past few years, she entered long term care at Trillium Ridge, where the wonderful, caring staff came to know her as “Queen Bea.”
Beatrice touched many lives in her 96 years with her gentle demeanor, ever present smile, and wonderful stories from a life well lived. Always proud of her Scottish heritage, incredible knitting skills, painting, baking and of course piano playing, she left the world peacefully, surrounded by the people she loved so tirelessly: her family, who – along with her many friends, Legion colleagues and curling buddies – will miss her forever.
Per Bea’s wishes, her family will hold a private remembrance in Minnedosa next summer. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation to Parkinson Canada or the Terry Fox Foundation in Bea’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
