Annette Hayward
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Annette Hayward on May 12, 2024 at the age of 78. She is survived by Christian Vandendorpe, her partner of 42 years.
She was devoted to her children Maïda and Alain, and her stepchildren Christian-Pol and Mercedes, and beloved by her grandchildren Maia, Aitor, Hugo, and Leo.
Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, she is survived by her brother Jim (Carole) and predeceased by her bother Bill (Mary) and her sister Frances (Gord).
After receiving her master’s degree at Dalhousie and at Université de Grenoble, she received her PhD from McGill on Québec literature. She began teaching at Queen’s in the French Department in 1973. A gifted teacher and researcher, she won the Governor General’s award in 2007 as well as several teaching awards. She retired as a professor emeritus in 2009 after 36 years at Queen’s.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the James Reid Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston from 1:30-3:30p.m. Please enter through the rear doors.
