Obituary
Angela Margaret Cameron (nee Aitken) 17th of January 1978 – 7th of November 2023. Angela passed away after a 5.5 year battle with ALS. Wife to David, Mother to Eilidh & Lachlann, Daughter to Cliff & Marg, Sister to Tammy & Natalie, Auntie to Jake, Cara and Jack.
Angela was an extraordinary woman, talented and caring teacher, an unbelievably wonderful wife and a magnificent mother. She cared so much about other people and would go out of her way to help others when they didn’t even know they needed help. She was passionate about life and knew, very early on, that life is short and that you should live every day like it’s your last. She loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit. In her own words, she jumped in to everything with two feet. She loved to have fun and socialise with friends, family and complete strangers.
In her career as an educator, she taught around a dozen different subjects in 4 countries. She was passionate about educating children and developing the whole person. She made so many friends in education and positively impacted the lives of so many young people. Angela had a very Motherly approach to teaching and one of her favourite jobs was as a Houseparent with her husband, David. In her role as a Houseparent, Angela looked after 60 children in the boarding house of Lomond School, a private school with boarding, in Scotland. Angela lived in Scotland for a total of 9 years, over 3 separate times. She lived and taught in New Zealand for a year and in Mexico for 6 months. The majority of her years were in Canada, for 35 years.
As a Mother and Wife, Angela was central to family life. She lived for her family. She loved her children more than life and battled with warrior spirit through 5 and a half years of ALS with the hope of recovering and spending a long and happy life with them. Her parenting style, positivity, lust for life and compassion for others has shaped David, Eilidh and Lachlann’s lives, and that will have an everlasting effect. Angela has lived in several countries but wanted to settle back in Kingston to be close to her parents and sisters. She loved them all and enjoyed the benefits of a large family network.
Through Angela’s battle over the last few years, she was cared for by a large number of wonderful care staff. They helped to normalise life and help Angela to stay at home with her family. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful care staff for their fantastic level of care, support and understanding during such a challenging time.
Angela was 45 when she left us, but was only ill for the last 5 years. She would not want us to dwell on that. She would want us to remember her for all of the wonderful and happy memories that we shared with her over her entire life. Please pick your happiest memories of Angela and only remember the ones where her beauty, zest for life, passion and positivity shine though. That was who Angela was.
I am sure as Angela looks down on us all now, she would want us all to embrace life, be happy and cherish those closest to us. Just as she did throughout her short but hugely meaningful life.
