Passed away peacefully at the Kemptville General Hospital on December 23, 2023. Murray, in his 95th year, was the loving husband of the late Joan McIlveen (Turner) for 49 years. He was the loving father of David (Donna), Janet (Jeff) and Judy (Julio). He was Grandpa to Zoë, William (Nellie), Sara (Mychal) and Thomas (Cara); Great Grandpa to Khloe, Elizabeth, Kinslee, Maggie, Edward, Tillie and Abby. He was predeceased by his parents George H. McIlveen and Lola M McIlveen (Porteous), his sister Jean McIlveen and brother Howard McIlveen (Esther). He is survived by his Brother-in-law Rick McKnight and Sister-in-law Nancy McKnight (Turner). Raised in Cardinal Ontario, Murray graduated from Queens University in 1951 with a BA in Mathematics and Economics and then obtained his Chartered Accountant designation. Married in 1958, Murray and Joan moved to Ottawa, where they raised their family and where Murray worked with Revenue Canada and then Statistics Canada, retiring in 1990. Connections with Cardinal, cousins in Vernon Ontario, and the family cottage along the “Front”, remained strong with him throughout his life.
For many years, Murray was an active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church Ottawa, where he was both an Elder, on the Board of Managers and a member of the choir. After moving to Spencerville, he joined St. Andrew’s-Knox Presbyterian Church.
Looking to expand his community involvement, Murray joined the Masons in the early 60’s becoming the Master of Ionic Lodge in 1969 and was a member for over 60 years.
Besides living in Ottawa, Murray subsequently lived in Spencerville, at Amica Westboro in Ottawa, the Bayfield Manor in Kemptville and lastly at Southbridge Kemptville.
A Family Service will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to the staff of Southbridge Kemptville for the wonderful and dedicated care given to Murray over the past year.
Donations to St. Andrew’s-Knox Presbyterian Church in Spencerville would be gratefully accepted.
