Shirley Marie Sayeau
Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital with family at her side, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, Shirley Sayeau (nee McMillen) of Johnstown, age 79. Loving wife of Pat Sayeau for 61 years. Loving mother of Barry Sayeau of Esquimalt, B.C., Becki MacDonald (Brian) of Johnstown, Belinda Sayeau of London and dear friend Kathy Anaka (Lindsay) of Red Lake. Dear sister of John McMillen (Susan) of Brouseville and Harold McMillen (Faye) of Morrisburg. Shirley will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jane, Kate, Amanda and Willow, as well as her adoring family and many friends in the Red Lake and Johnstown area. She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Ruby McMillen (nee Fisher) and her son Bradley Sayeau.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her granddaughters who always found her to be a source of inspiration and strength and a great listener. Always knowing what to say and her ability to see the humour in life, provided so much comfort to them during the many different trials and tribulations in their lives. We know her words, positivity and easy laughter will live on in each one of them.
Her Red Hat groups (not one, but two!) were sources of great joy! She thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and food (!) at every gathering and looked forward to the next one excitedly, which would be happily scribbled on her calendar as soon as the date was set.
Shirley’s life- long battle with cancer was a testament to her tenacity, bravery, and positive spirit! She approached her many appointments and treatments as further social outings rather than burdens, always getting to know her nurses and doctors and learning about their families and lives.
She was truly grateful for the care and kindness that each of them gave to her and our family would like to thank them as well. Far too many to list, but we would like to specially note the sincere kindness and support Shirley and our family received from the Palliative Care Team at both Bayshore and the Brockville General Hospital. Words cannot express our deepest gratitude.
