It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sharon Slaney, affectionately known as “Jigger,” at the age of 65. Sharon left us unexpectedly on October 3, 2024, at Royal Victoria Hospital, following complications from surgery.
Born on October 17, 1959, in the beautiful landscapes of Newfoundland, Sharon carried the warmth of her roots throughout her life. She is survived by her devoted partner Robert Harvey, her beloved children Jennifer De La Roca and Rebecca Harvey, and her treasured grandchildren Heidi, Aurora, Gabriel, Christian, and Michael De La Roca. Sharon now rests with her parents, Rose and Henry Slaney, and her dear sister Marion.
Though she spent much of her life in Ontario, Newfoundland always held a special place in her heart. At Silvert’s Clothing, where she served as Sales Manager, Sharon was not just a colleague but a friend and mentor to all.
She was a beacon of warmth and kindness, known and loved by all in the Belle Ewart community for her friendly demeanor and her passion for gardening and caring for her pets—Newton, Oreo, Puddin, and Taffy, which reflect her nurturing spirit.
Sharon will forever be remembered for her boundless kindness, her engaging smile, and her innate ability to connect deeply with others. She had a gift for making everyone feel valued, often going out of her way to support those in need. Whether advocating for seniors or bringing joy to those around her, she exemplified compassion in action. Her thoughtful attention to others’ needs set her apart as a true friend and ally and will be deeply missed.
Sharon’s legacy is one of love and connection. Her friendly nature, infectious smile, and genuine compassion touched the lives of everyone she met. A true embodiment of authenticity, Sharon forged meaningful connections at work and home, leaving a legacy of love and friendship. We have lost a remarkable woman, but heaven has gained a beautiful spirit.
Her kindness and thoughtfulness will forever resonate in the hearts of those she left behind. While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the love she gave so freely.
