It is with sadness and a great sense of loss that the family of Archie Hill announce his passing on April 25, 2024 in his 94th year. Archie, formerly of
Foldens, had resided at Woodingford Lodge in Ingersoll for the past 22 months.
Born March 31, 1931, Archie was the son of Oliver Bert and Mary Francis (McCombs) Hill and was predeceased by 10 siblings, Earl, Leona, Carl, Les, Ken, Alvin, Helen, June, Bert & Mary.
Archie leaves behind his beloved wife Grace (Fry) of nearly 68 years. Loving Father of Diana (Ross) and Mark (Jill). Grandfather to Chelsea, Keira, Derek, Jacob and Vasey, Great Grandfather to Reid & Owen.
In his early years Archie worked for the County of Oxford along side his father. He then attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree.
In 1971 the Hills purchased a shoe store in Wingham, Ont. which they operated for 19 years. During that time Archie obtained his Certification in Pedorthics. He was a founding member and past president of the Pedorthic Association of Canada (PAC). During his tenure there he was honoured with a Life Membership. To quote from that presentation; “As a Director and President, Archie’s gentle, straightforward approach guided PAC’s Board well, particularly during stressful times when a calming presence was most needed. His familiarity with parliamentary procedure resolved many questions, and his unwavering morals set an example for all. Kind words and heartfelt emotions are Archie’s tools and he employed them well…”
While residing in Wingham, Archie was a member/past president of the Lion’s Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Wingham Hospital Board.
Archie was a lifetime member and ordained minister in the Community of
Christ, serving in a variety of roles, including Pastor for 10 years.
In his retirement, Archie returned to the family homestead in Foldens. He had many hands-on hobbies. With his son Mark, he enjoyed restoring a 1926 Ford Model T. The same make and model he later learned was once owned by his father in his earlier years. He enjoyed entering his car in car
shows and taking family and friends for rides.
Archie’s kind, ever-giving nature, always thinking of others before himself and his steadfast love will always be with us. He was a wonderful husband, a great father and grandfather and a dedicated servant to his faith.
Our special thanks to Dr. Roth and to the staff at Woodingford Lodge for compassionate care received.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday May 26, 2024 at the Ingersoll 50+ Activity Centre, 250 Ingersoll Street South at 2:00 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to his favorite charity World Accord, a non-profit International Development Agency, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
