Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Pleasant Manor in Niagara on the Lake. Sheila was born on September 10, 1938 to parents Arthur and Mary Hurley (nee Baglar) in Sault Ste. Marie. She is now reunited with her parents and her three brothers and four sisters.
Loving wife of the late Robert “Bob” Douglas Burge who predeceased Sheila in 1986. Beloved mother of Glenn (Mira) Burge, Kevin Burge and Lisa (Glenn) Cameron. Proud grandmother of Brianne (Rob), Jordan, Curtis (Nikki), Nathan, Thomas, Robert, and Martin. Great-grandmother to Noah and Cody.
Sheila grew up in a lighthouse on Caribou Island and in 1972 she bought a restaurant and called it Bob’s Gulf and Sheila’s Restaurant, located on Highway 11 in Huntsville where she was famous for her buttertarts. They would move to Walkers Lake in 1985, but continued working at Mother’s Restaurant, which later was called Little Caesars and also worked at China House in Huntsville. Sheila resided in Huntsville until she moved to Pleasant Manor in 2022.
Sheila loved to bake for her family and collected lighthouses and salt and pepper shakers with over 2000 pairs. She loved all flowers and had quite the green thumb.
A small family service was held at Trinity United Church on December 3, 2024, officiated by Rev. Diane Knowles. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.ca/
