Rose Hamblin passed away suddenly but peacefully at the age of 93 on Thursday October 26, 2023 at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville, Ontario.
Born February 10, 1930 in Depot Harbour, Ontario (one of 8 children) to Giacinto and Favorita (Cellighin) Brunatti. She talked fondly of a happy childhood on the shores of Georgian Bay, gathering experiences that would shape her as an adult.
Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Ted Hamblin (1929-2006), she is survived by her daughters Susan Hamblin-Dennis (David) and Janice Genova (Vince) and beloved four grandchildren, Leah Dennis (Alvin Wee), Daniel Dennis, Matthew Genova and Adam Genova.
Rose was known for her strength of character, devotion to family, volunteerism and a tireless work ethic that inspired many. Grandma and Grandpa always showed up for their grandkids and attended a plethora of school events, hockey games, music concerts and happily provided babysitting services upon request.
A perfectionist at heart, Rose taught herself how to sew, smock, decorate, golf and lent her organizational skills to local groups such as Probus, The Rotary Club, The Catholic Women’s League and was a co-founder of The Huntsville Association of the Performing Arts. She was most proud of her ability to presell 300 subscriptions before the first concert of the season. Rose loved Huntsville and the wonderful people that made it a community. She made many treasured friends along the way.
Many have enjoyed her legendary dinner parties and celebratory events. She was the happiest serving a table full of guests and enjoyed participating in the banter that followed.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr O’Halloran and to the nurses and dedicated Personal Support Workers and Administration at Muskoka Landing where she lived for 9 years. Special thanks to Suzanne Hall, Janice Blakelock, Joy Gervais and the Catholic Women’s League.
A funeral mass will take place at St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church (12 Centre St North) on Monday November 6 at 11 a.m.
Donations can be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society of Muskoka.
