Jozef Hanrath Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joe Hanrath
Huntsville, Ontario
July 2, 1962 – December 12, 2024
Joe Hanrath of Huntsville, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Fresh out of his teenage years, Joe discovered his lifelong calling as a builder of homes. His journey began in the Niagara Region, where he honed his craft building a neighborhood home. Driven by a passion for creating, he ventured north to Huntsville, where his skills and dedication flourished. Joe didn’t just build houses—he built homes that became the foundation of countless lives. Many who met him, whether as a neighbor or client, quickly found themselves more like friends, their lives touched by his warmth and generosity.
Joe’s talent wasn’t just reserved for others. Over the years, he poured the same love and care into building homes for his own growing family. From a tiny house that served as a haven for his early days in Huntsville to a family home filled with laughter and memories, and finally to a dream home further north, Joe’s life was a testament to the idea that houses are only truly complete when they are filled with love.
Beyond his craftsmanship, Joe was a man devoted to his family, his faith, and his community. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather, whose legacy lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His was a life filled with the kind of wealth that isn’t measured in dollars but in the love, joy, and connections he shared so freely.
Joe connected us to so many people, including his beloved spouse, Patti Kay Hanrath, and his children: Lucas Hanrath; Josh Hanrath (spouse Anna, son James); Kateri Hanrath (spouse Andrew, son Maverick); Tyler Ogilvie (spouse Rebecca, children Wentz and Marigold); and Kayley Galarneau (spouse Max, children Kiera, Cohen, and Addalie). Joe is the cherished son of Willem✝ and Thea Hanrath and dear brother to Matt Hanrath (Mary), Case Hanrath (Eileen), Louise Charlebois✝, Willem Hanrath (Marie✝), Kitty Milo (Shaun), and Tom Hanrath (Cindy), as well as an uncle to countless nieces, nephews, and their families. He also shared a brotherhood with his fellow members of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus. (✝ indicates deceased)
In the last decade, Alzheimer’s became a part of Joe’s journey—a challenge that reminded us all of the power of love, resilience, and support. Through the difficulties, his family and community drew closer, offering him the same steadfast care he had always given so freely to others. While the disease may have taken pieces of him, it could never touch the essence of his spirit, which now rests in the eternal embrace of God’s love.
