Sally Sheppard (Dutcher) 81 years
July 25, 1942 – July 14, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our loving wife, mother, sister, Mama, Nana and aunt, Sally Sheppard (nee Dutcher) on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, peacefully and surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved wife and best friend of nearly 60 years to Tom Sheppard. Loving mother of Sarah Ann (predeceased infant), MaryLisa Barta (Don) Fort Wayne, Indiana, Hugh (Emily), Britt (Denise) and Sarah Pappin (Rob) of Sudbury. Loving Grandmother (Nana, Mama) to Bethany, David, Sydney, Ethan, Kate, Thomas, Morgan and Erin. Loving Great Grandmother (Mama) to Abby, Anna, Allison and Alivia. Treasured sister of Penelope (Dee-Dee) Jones, Camden, South Carolina. Aunt to Leslie, Wynne, Jeff, Johanna, Ralph and Tim. Reunited with her loving parents Annie Penelope (Nell) and Donald Dutcher.
Sally was born in 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware. After graduating from Becker College in Worchester, Massachusetts she worked as a medical secretary in Watertown, New York and it was there she began dating and married the love of her life Tom. They married on Oct. 3rd, 1964.
Sally and Tom settled in Garson, Ontario and once the kids were in school, she completed the nursing program at Cambrian College. Upon graduation she worked at Sudbury Memorial Hospital for over 20 years and established many lifetime friends. Nearing their retirement, Sally and Tom moved to Hanmer Lake. Sally loved living on the lake and spent many enjoyable hours tending to her flower gardens. Sally and Tom also enjoyed many travel adventures including a memorable trip to China. Sally was immensely proud of her South Carolina roots. The numerous family trips to Camden and Myrtle Beach brought her great joy. Sally’s overwhelming kindness and nurturing spirit created a solid foundation for her family and friends. She would listen intently to every story and problem, offering endless encouragement and support. We will miss her heart-to-heart talks and words of wisdom. Nothing meant more to Sally than to spend time with her family.
The family thanks the many nurses, PSWs, Palliative care team and Hospice staff for their warmth, compassion, and exceptional care throughout Sally’s journey.
As per her wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
